Frank “Terive” Duperier, MD, FACS, FASMBS
Dr. Duperier is a highly-skilled San Antonio surgeon. He has years of experience in advanced laparoscopic and robotic bariatric and foregut surgery including LAP-BAND, Sleeve Gastrectomy, Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass, and Revision weight loss surgery procedures. Dr Duperier is also an endocrine surgeon – he is very experienced in diseases of the thyroid and parathyroid.
Dr. Terive Duperier has been in private practice since 2002. He obtained his fellowship training at the world-famous Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. This is the highest level of surgical training one can complete. He also completed a Mini-Fellowship in Endocrine Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in 2004.
A native of San Antonio, Dr. Duperier earned his undergraduate degree in Neuroscience from Brown University in 1991 after graduating from Alamo Heights High School in 1987. After leaving Rhode Island, Terive moved to Ohio where he received his medical degree from the University Of Cincinnati School Of Medicine in 1996. The residency match moved Dr. Duperier to Newark, New Jersey where he completed his 5 year surgery training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ-Newark). Training under internationally-known laparoscopic surgeons, Dr. Duperier became interested in minimally invasive surgery. At the completion of residency, Dr. Duperier and his wife moved back to Ohio for dedicated Fellowship training in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery and Bariatric Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. At the Cleveland Clinic, Dr Duperier also became proficient with a myriad of minimally invasive procedures, including laparoscopic gastric bypasses, laparoscopic repair of paraesophageal, ventral and inguinal hernias, laparoscopic splenectomy and adrenalectomy, laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication for reflux (GERD), laparoscopic Heller myotomy for achalasia, as well as laparoscopic radio-frequency ablation for liver tumors.
Dr Duperier is one of the co-founders of BMI of Texas (www.bmioftexas.com). He has performed several thousand weight loss surgeries and assisted on thousands more. Working with Dr Seger, they were issued a patent for a laparoscopic scalpel in November 2013.
In addition, he has co-authored a children’s book called Larvie Learns a Lesson – the story of a caterpillar who could not become a butterfly until he engaged in a doctor’s supervised medical weight loss program. The book was published in the Spring of 2013.
Dr Duperier is the program director for the Bariatric Fellowship at BMI of Texas. This is the most tenured Bariatric Fellowship in South Texas. It was started in 2007. He is also the Bariatric Medical Director of the Foundation Surgical Hospital of San Antonio. He recently served as the Chief of Surgery at the Methodist Specialty Transplant Hospital of San Antonio. He has also been featured on many news channels discussing his expertise in weight loss surgery. Dr Duperier is currently a member of the following:
